NAIROBI, Kenya /Christian Newswire/ — Continuing its efforts to relieve suffering in the developing world, Crossroad Bible Institute announces the opening of yet another international distribution center, this one in Kenya. This is the Grand Rapids, Michigan-based ministry’s twelfth distribution center worldwide and its fourth in Africa.

In Kenya, as in many African countries, prisons are dirty, overcrowded, plagued by disease and lacking adequate health care. Due to these factors, a 2008 report stated, approximately forty-six prisoners die monthly. Mothers often raise their babies or young children in these dangerous conditions.

The CBI program will begin operation in the Naivasha Prison, a tightly regulated facility with 3,000 inmates, and four other prisons. Kenya has approximately 50,000 people behind bars.

The director of CBI Kenya is Jefferson Gathu, who also heads Cistern Materials Translation and Publishing Center, an organization that provides Christian literature for native tribes of Kenya and other parts of Africa. As in other developing nations, CBI Instructors not only hand-deliver the Bible study lessons and letters of discipleship to the students in prison but also provide inmates with basic necessities like food, medical supplies, blankets, soap and toilet paper. Gathu also heads efforts to organize medical camps, construct prison libraries and aid in reentry.

Director Gathu is assisted by Samuel Chege, who notes the importance of the CBI discipleship program, explaining, “Imprisoned people have heavy burdens of loneliness, guilt, bitterness, depression or confusion. We want inmates to know that they are capable, appreciated and doing a good job.”

CBI’s international program director, Cynthia Williams, recently attended the official CBI Kenya grand opening. Among the 120 guests were senior prison officials and chaplains, bishops, pastors and a representative from the Office of the Commissioner, all of them highly supportive of CBI.

CBI President Dr. David Schuringa remarks, “We are grateful for the shared vision of our Kenyan brothers and sisters and enthusiastic about the opportunity to work with them to serve God’s people in prison and reentering society in their home country.”

IRVING, Texas, Dec. 3, 2010 /PRNewswire/ — Web-based church management software company Fellowship Technologies released an entirely new way for churches to manage ministry groups. The new Groups 2.0 update to their flagship software, Fellowship One, features a new group-finder for church websites, updated group management controls and an innovative Span of Care feature for managing across multiple group types.

Hundreds of dynamic churches already leverage Fellowship One for managing their community groups. In this latest update, the groups tools have been expanded to include new ways of providing oversight, accountability and easier management of multiple groups. Unlike other group management applications, the new Fellowship One groups solution allows for unique creation of dynamically generated groups for real-time oversight, trend-spotting and instant follow-up. Some of the key features of Groups 2.0 include:

Newly introduced Span of Care allows church leaders and lay leaders to manage across multiple groups or even geographical regions.

Group finder functionality integrates seamlessly into the church website with complete branding control.

Anytime, anywhere secure access to member profiles and group communication tools.

Group leader tools allow for connecting with prospects, members and other leaders.

Google Maps, which pin-point the locations of groups in their community.

Complete branding control for website.

“Fellowship One Groups is the culmination of several years of development with graphically rich tools for group leader accountability,” says Curtis Harris, director of community for Fellowship Technologies. “Over 200 churches went through an extensive Beta testing program and contributed insight for an innovative set of church group management tools.”
Stonegate Fellowship, of Midland, Texas, was one of the churches in the Beta program of Groups 2.0 and has already benefitted from this new group management tool. “A handful of staff members trained about 75 individual lay leaders and a single large group training with over 100 small group leaders,” shared Jessi Russo, the champion leader of Fellowship One for Stonegate Fellowship. “Groups 2.0 gave us greater visibility for our various groups that didn’t get as much publicity on any given Sunday. It’s helped our people see and connect in groups that they previously didn’t know even existed.”
Fellowship Technologies is excited about this major release as it lays the foundation for many more innovative future releases. To learn more about Fellowship One Groups and see the features and gallery of examples from churches currently using the new software, please visit http://bit.ly/F1Groups.

Honorable/Respected Christian people of the World,

There are many reliable Churches in Pakistan but somehow they never reach areas that are in real need. Areas where the Christian people are very backward, for example: Punjab, Sindh, Nwfp and Balochistan. Reliable Churches have a strong presence in the cities of Pakistan but their work in rural area is zero.

The Christian community of Pakistan is only 3% and the rest of the people are Muslims. The majority of Christians in Pakistan have their own social economic problem and are unable to carry out their vision towards Christian evangelism.

The Christian community is reduced to living in small villages and are suffering in many ways. The British missions offered education from 1877 to 1947 in some areas but it hasn’t done much to improve their standard of living.

I can show you the miserable conditions of Christian people living in Pakistan far away from cities.

They are miserable in many ways. They do not know how to pray in a church because they do not have any church or pastor. They do not have knowledge of the Bible. They never learned about the birth and resurrection of Christ. They do not know about Baptism or about receiving Holy Communion.

Most adults are illiterate and their children are the same. Their economic condition is truly tragic.

Usually they only have breakfast but do not have any food for lunch and dinner. We want to up left them up. But our economic condition is not that much better.

We want to improve their education but there are many problems before us. We are in need of school buildings, teacher’s salaries and equipment that is very necessary for this project. We can not fulfill it without international Christian help.

We are working to help Christians. Cina Church wants you to help us.

We are currently working on the following projects: Christian films, Sunday schools, home preaching, Christian religious education and macro loans.

There is also a great need for flood relief projects but it is out of our economic reach. So we need your help for all these projects. Our vision is that the Christian people will flourish here in Pakistan.

If you are able to help us then we will write in detail of our programs for the poor Christian people suffering in Pakistan.

Mighty Lord Jesus Christ give you more power and vision for these noble deeds.

Thank you

TO SERVE WITH LOVE TO ONE ANOTHER.

/Christian Newswire/ — Many of the nation’s most noted Christian leaders, Dr. Charles Stanley, Dr Michael Youssef, Chuck Pierce, Kim Clement and others are calling for all Christians to pray for America. Some have called for massive intercession for America. There is no better place to pray for America than the nation’s Capital across from the White House, praying for America to return to God, a nation founded on the word of God.

On Friday, August 6, 2010, 12 Noon to 3 PM EST, www.praylive.com, an Internet radio station broadcasting prayer 24/7 across the US and world from all the states and various foreign countries will unite Christians, pastors, and intercessors from across the nation in Lafayette Park across from the White House to pray 2 Chronicles 7:14 over America, praying for prayer to be restored to mainstream America and in our schools.

From California, Pastor Toyin Lawal, Dr. Alvin C. Hathaway, Union Baptist, MD, Pastor Roy Mosaku, Gospel of Grace Church, New Jersey, Pastor John Odukoya, Fountain of Life Grace Springs, MD., Rev. Jose King, Church of God of Prophecy, Washington, DC, Rev. Jacqueline Reeves, Spoken Word Ministry, Rahway, New Jersey, Rev. Bonita Chase Darby, FAITH, Virginia, Pastor Nelson Guzman, Iglesia Bethel, MD, Bishop Douglass Williams, Healing the Land Ministry, MD, Bishop Nehemiah Reinhart, Solid Rock Full Gospel, MD, Bishop Shirley Holloway, House of Help and Hope, Wash. Davenport, Deliverance House of Healing, Washington DC, Minister Brenda Haskell, NC, Pastor Harley, NC, and others coming from Detroit, MI, New York, PA, and other states just to name a few.

Each will pray a prayer topic or point and the conclusion will be everyone singing “God Bless America” in English and Spanish. Wenda and Ken Royster, founders of www.praylive.com feel it is imperative that we unite and turn back to God across America, a country founded on the word of God that has been richly blessed. In response to a comment about time to unite and pray, Angela, one of the over 5,000 friends on FB said to www.praylive.com, “It has been time….Yes Saints…. Let’s do it.”

LONGWOOD, Fla. /PRNewswire/ — This weekend, Northland, A Church Distributed will host a backpack drive to collect school supplies for families in need in Central Florida, as well as those affected by the oil spill in Houma, La.

Northland’s connection to Houma is a virtual one. The church is partnering with one of its online congregants, Terri Goulette, who worships with 2,000 others from around the world each weekend via interactive webstream.

Goulette, who lives in an area that has been severely affected by the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico, wanted to do something to help the families who lost their livelihood as a result of the spill. One morning she awoke with an idea: backpack drive. Remembering Northland’s annual school drive, she invited her church family in Florida to join her in gathering 1,000 backpacks and school supplies for the children of commercial fishermen, shrimpers, oystermen, truck drivers, ice factory workers and others.

“They were expecting a plentiful season this year, but just two weeks before the fishing season opened, the oil spill happened,” Goulette explains. “It has been very hard riding down the bayous and seeing all the shrimp boats and oyster boats just lined up when they should be harvesting seafood.”

While there is a great need for back-to-school supplies in Houma, there are thousands of homeless children in Central Florida who cannot afford back-to-school supplies. To help meet this need, Northland’s backpack drive will also benefit several local organizations:

– A Gift for Teaching, an organization that works within Seminole County
Public Schools to provide kids and teachers with supplies throughout
the entire year
– Christian HELP, which provides for the vocational, material and
spiritual needs of those who are unemployed
– Harvest Time, a hunger and disaster relief organization meeting the
needs of families

Backpacks are needed for grade school, middle school and high school students. Individuals may choose to fill a backpack with supplies, or just donate supplies or backpacks. Donations can be dropped off at Northland’s Welcome Center in Longwood through Aug. 2.

ABOUT NORTHLAND

MELBOURNE, Fla., – In order to examine Satan it is first necessary to establish the existence of angels. Kessinger does this, discussing Satan’s fall, along with that of the angels who fell with him to become his minions. “Satan and his minions still maintain angelic characteristics so it is important to understand who and what angels were created to be,” the author asserts.

The Devil is in the Details makes the important distinction that Satan’s work is that of an army, and Kessinger devotes time to shed light on demons and their roles throughout history. Special emphasis is placed on the power and influence Satan is able to exert on mankind, and the book addresses evil from several perspectives. A Top Ten List of Evil is included to inform readers about the strategies and schemes Satan uses in modern society.

Thoroughly researched, concise and comprehensive, The Devil is in the Details is a thought-provoking, eye-opening read. Discover more in the pages of this revelatory new book. You can also visit

Washington, D.C., International Christian Concern (ICC) has learned on July 16 five Somali Muslim men assaulted and seriously injured a Christian man in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for reading a book critical of the Prophet Muhammad.

Falahow refused to surrender the book and reminded them that they were living in Addis Ababa and not in Mogadishu, and therefore had religious freedom.

One of the Muslim men attempted to seize the book from Falahow’s grasp, but when he failed, he proceeded to punch and kick Falahow. Fourother Muslim men joined in, ganging up on Falahow and beating him mercilessly.

Falahow suffered injuries that included a broken leg and cuts to his face. Currently, he is recovering in a safe house provided by the Somali Christian community in Addis Ababa. The incident has been reported to the police.

A Somali church leader in Addis Ababa spoke to ICC, describing the attacks as ‘a brutal attempt to subdue the growing Somali Christian community in Addis Ababa’

This is not the first time that Somali Muslims have attacked Somalis who converted to Christianity in Addis Ababa. However, this is the first time that such an attack took place in a crowded public place.

Jonathan Racho, ICC’s Regional Manager for Africa, said “Several Somali Christians have been killed by Islamic radicals in Somalia and many have left their country due to the persecution they face. Sadly, they don’t escape from persecution even after they leave their country. We urge Ethiopian authorities to stop the attempt by Islamists to import their violent ideologies from Somalia. The mistreatment of Christian converts will get worse unless the authorities take action against the individuals responsible for attacking Falahow.”

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. /PRNewswire/ — As a result of increased attention due to January’s earthquake crisis in Haiti and other external factors, Bethany Christian Services (www.Bethany.org), the nation’s largest adoption agency, is seeing significant growth and interest in the U.S. adoption market, with overall international and domestic adoption placements up 26 percent over the same time period in 2009.

The organization is reporting Intercountry Adoption placements up 66 percent and Intercountry Adoption inquiries ahead by more than 5,000 requests during the same six month time period of 2009, totaling an unprecedented 10,567 inquiries. Bethany ascribes these increases in part to the Haiti crisis and the need to find safe homes for children who lost one or both parents during the earthquake.

Domestic Infant Adoption inquiries are also higher than in 2009 with 8,037 in the first half of 2010. Additionally, Infant Adoption Home Studies have increased 15 percent and formal Infant Adoption applications have increased 23 percent over 2009.

In addition to the Haiti crisis, Bethany attributes the increase in adoption to new movements within Christian churches, which are creating new attitudes for young couples. Bethany has been instrumental in bringing more families forward to adopt by partnering with organizations such as Catalyst, Saddleback Church, Q Conference, Southern Baptist Denomination, and Christian Alliance for Orphans.

“The figures Bethany released show strong improvement as we confront the global orphan crisis, but the need still remains as there are still an incredible number of orphaned children who wait for their ‘forever family’,” said Bill Blacquiere, president and CEO at Bethany Christian Services. “It is our vision that every child has a loving family, so we are working to find new families and identify supportive local communities. We all must contribute to take measurable and immediate action in order to find more families who can provide loving homes.”

Bethany has been at the forefront of partnering with church leaders to support foster care, adoption, and orphan care programs within their ministries. Most recently, the Southern Baptist Convention announced a new Adoption Fund, which subsidizes the cost of adoption for pastors by $2,000. In addition, Rick Warren’s Saddleback Civil Forum focused heavily on orphans and adoption and other popular conferences, such as Catalyst, Together for Adoption, the Christian Alliance for Orphans Summit and Adopting for Life, have put adoption at center stage.
